A Post Looking to the Future

This is a different post for me. I’m not going to tell you about some past travel adventure. I’m not going to share any pictures with you. Instead, I am going to talk about the future. Actually today as my next adventure begins today and continues for the next six weeks.

I knew that for various reasons I wanted to go to Malawi again in June. This will be my third time to go and teach there. My pastor, Jeff Horton, will be going with me. He had planned to go last year, but his wife was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks before he was to leave so he cancelled. I invited him to come along with me this year, and he agreed. My wife is happy as she is not a fan of me traveling alone. We leave today, Wednesday, and fly to Amsterdam and then Johannesburg where we will spend the night before our final flight to Malawi.

As my regular readers know, my daughter Andrea travels every summer during her summer break from teaching. This year she decided she wanted to take a cruise up the coast of Norway and asked us to go with her. She finally convinced us.

The date she chose was a little over a week after I would finish teaching in Malawi. Silvette didn’t think it made sense for me to come home and then turn around to go back to Norway. We talked about some options of where we might visit in Europe. Then Andrea decided that since I was already in Africa that we should do a safari. After her adventures she thought we should do one. So after some thought we agreed. Andrea and Silvette will fly down together to Kenya, and I will fly up from Malawi. The next day we begin a four day safari.

After our safari, we will fly up to Bergen, Norway where we will have a few days before our cruise. Andrea’s friend Jacob will join us there. The cruise will take us all the way north. It will be nearly 24 hours of daylight there and cold. We will then fly back to Oslo for a few days.

After Oslo Jacob and Andrea will head to Sweden where Andrea has a friend. Silvette and I will go over to Latvia and Estonia before flying back home.

When we went on previous longer vacations, it took forever to get out the posts for each place. For instance when we visited Singapore after Christmas a few years ago, the last post landed at the end of May. That was over four months after our visit. So since this trip will be even longer, posts could well go into next January.

So I am thinking of doing some smaller video posts from each of our locations so you can keep up with where we are visiting. The longer, more detailed posts will come later as usual. So if you see a post notice on a Saturday or a Thursday, it’s just me trying to update you as to where we are.

So that’s the plan, and I thought I would share it with you. I hope you enjoy the video updates, and it will whet you appetite to read the longer posts when they come out. Stay tuned..
