On our final night in Ngorongoro Crater, we had an exciting game drive, spotting wildlife like hyenas, flamingos, and zebras. We finally saw a leopard, achieving the Big Five. The campsite was cold but offered close encounters with zebras. The experience was memorable, and I cherished the adventure despite looking forward to civilization.

Andrea Camps in the Diverse Serengeti of Tanzania
As I mentioned in the previous post, I don’t always pay attention to the small details of each trip I go on. For this trip I knew there would be some camping. However, I wasn’t exactly aware that we would be camping for four nights in a row, two in the middle of the Serengeti. I was quite excited to see the animals but not excited for cold showers, shared washrooms, and the possibility of wild animals lingering around the…

Trekking to See Amazing Chimps and Gorillas in Uganda
Gorilla trekking had not been something that was on my bucket list. However, as I was browsing the list of available trips for this summer, going back to Africa and seeing animals was definitely something I wanted to do. Of course once I saw the gorilla trekking tour in Uganda, I quickly signed up. I must admit when I sign up for these trips, I do a quick look at the itinerary and see if it looks good. I sign…

Cruising the Beautiful Seychelles Islands
Traveling to the Seychelles has been on my travel list for a while. It was added to my list after I visited the Maldives in 2018. However, the Seychelles doesn’t offer a tour like I typically take. I had to take a different route to visit the Seychelles, one that I was quite looking forward to, a cruise. I had never been on a cruise before However, this wasn’t your typical Carnival Cruise. It was a small boat with room…

A Wildlife Sanctuary and a Beach Resort in Liberia
While I didn’t go to Liberia to see the tourist attractions, Isaac scheduled Saturday as a day of recreation. I really had no thoughts about what we would do other than I wanted to see a beach. Since Glenn and Wendy Lorenz were also there, Glenn had a thought. Coming from the airport he said he had seen a sign about a chimpanzee place. With that as a goal we headed out from our hotel. Since Isaac and his son…

Experiencing the Joy of Church Life in Monrovia, Liberia
My purpose in going to Monrovia, Liberia was not to see the sights. Instead it was to teach a class in church history to men and women who were seeking ordination in the church. The goal was to check off this class so they would be one step closer to their ordination. I arrived late Friday. I arrived then because I knew I would be preaching on Sunday, and I wanted some time to catch my breath and adjust before…

Observing Life in Liberia Through a Car Window
After having taught twice in the African country of Malawi and then last year in Togo, I was ready to continue teaching in Africa. The next opportunity presented to me was to teach in Liberia, another country in West Africa. Liberia has a unique history. The country was designated as a place for freed American slaves to return to in Africa if they so desired. Some did. Unfortunately they created an elite society that showed an unwillingness to participate in…

Final Days Down to South Africa and the Cape of Good Hope
Every journey has to have an ending. This long journey would end in South Africa. However, there was still a lot to see and do before that moment. First we had to get through our final camping experience. We woke up early the next morning, as we did most mornings, as we wanted to get into the Namib NaukLuft National Park as soon as the gate opened. It was still dark when we woke up, and the night sky was…

A Busy Watering Hole and Sand Dunes in Namibia
After our camping adventure in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, we had a couple of nights of down time before we were back in the tents. One of those nights we were in the country where some locals gave us a presentation about how life used to be when they were able to live off of the land. Now the government won’t allow them to live that way anymore. So their culture doesn’t get lost and forgotten, they do these presentations to…
